Korea ramps up film funding as it seeks to revive struggling industry

“If Korean cinema collapses, so does K-culture,” Culture, Sports and Tourism Minister Chae Hwi-young said Tuesday at a meeting with filmmakers, stressing the urgency of support measures included in the government’s supplementary budget for the film industry. With the additional funding, Korea could see the production of around 40 films, Chae said, adding that roughly 10 more productions this year could make a meaningful difference for the industry. “The reason last year was considered a crisis (
