Police seek detention of 66-year-old over Kontula killing

Helsinki police suspect a 66-year-old man of killing an elderly woman outside Kontula metro station on Saturday. Investigators say the man admitted the stabbing during an initial interview and fled by metro before officers arrested him in Mellunmäki. The attack took place outside the station’s C entrance shortly after 11am on 18 July. The victim, a woman aged about 80, died after suffering knife wounds in the public area beside the station in eastern Helsinki.
