Southern Japan earthquake traps people in collapsed shopping mall

Rescue teams searched through a damaged shopping centre and an industrial site in southern Japan on Tuesday after a major earthquake struck Kumamoto prefecture, leaving people missing, injuring dozens and forcing about 300,000 residents towards evacuation centres. The tremor hit inland on Kyushu island at 4.27pm local time, close to the city of Uki and about 20 kilometres south of Kumamoto city.
