An elderly pedestrian in his 80s is in critical condition after being struck by a car in Longford and has been airlifted to Beaumont Hospital for serious injuries.

Gardaí have made a second arrest in connection with a serious assault that occurred in Naas, Co Kildare. A man in his 30s remains in serious condition in Beaumont Hospital following the early morning incident.
