The United States has expressed willingness to cooperate in the investigation of a shooting incident that occurred off the coast of Cuba between a Florida-registered speedboat and a Cuban coast guard vessel.

Cuba’s government said Wednesday that its soldiers killed four people aboard a speed boat registered in Florida that opened fire on officers in Cuban waters. Cuba’s Interior Ministry issued a statement that provided few details about the shooting, but noted that the boat was roughly 1.6 km northeast of Cayo Falcones, off Cuba’s north coast. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Washington was seeking its own facts about the shooting and would 'respond accordingly.' In Washington, US Vice President JD Vance said the White House was 'monitoring' the situation and that 'hopefully it's not as bad as we fear it could be.'
The Interior Ministry said the coast guard encountered the "illegal" Florida-registered vessel one nautical mile from Falcones Cay in Villa Clara province.
