Mara Braun has made a spirited comeback this season for the surging Minnesota Gophers

With Minnesota's lead on Ohio State cut precariously to six points, Gophers point guard Amaya Battle found herself trapped by the Buckeyes underneath the basket with the shot clock dwindling when she deftly called timeout to avoid a turnover. The inbound play design was just as wise: a pass to the corner to set up a cutting Mara Braun for a catch-and-shoot jumper just inside the 3-point line. Braun's make with 1:30 left sealed the ninth straight victory for No. 23 Minnesota, which marked its first entry of the season in the AP Top 25 poll with a 74-61 takedown of No. 10 Ohio State on Wednesday.

GameStop CEO Ryan Cohen just put 'parasitic' bosses on blast. Michael Burry sees shades of Warren Buffett.

GameStop CEO Ryan Cohen just put 'parasitic' bosses on blast. Michael Burry sees shades of Warren Buffett.

GameStop CEO Ryan Cohen GameStop GameStop CEO Ryan Cohen channeled Warren Buffett in a fiery post titled "The Hollow Men" on X. He took aim at directors, executives, and managers who collect big money and shirk responsibility. Michael Burry said Cohen has "rougher edges than Buffett," but he's "more modern in approach." Ryan Cohen seems to be doing his best Warren Buffett impression, just like Michael Burry suggested. The billionaire GameStop CEO and Chewy cofounder channeled the legendary investor in a lengthy X post titled "The Hollow Men" on Wednesday. Cohen railed against a "new, parasitic class of corporate bureaucrat: The Risk-Free Insider." He lambasted independent directors who don't dare rock the boat and risk losing their cushy, well-paid jobs. He berated corporate bosses who balk at tying their fortunes to their company's success — they collect big bonuses if its stock price rises, and receive huge payouts if they tank the business and leave. He also chastised managers who avoid accountability by hiring expensive consultants to blame if things don't work out. Cohen labeled those three groups the "hollow men of the boardroom" who "wear the right suits" and "say the right buzzwords" but have little skin in the game. Risking your own bottom line is the "only thing that keeps a business honest," Cohen wrote. He called for a return to an "owner's mentality," where bosses treat shareholders' money as if it were their own. He warned that failure to change would mean "iconic American franchises hollowed out by fees, managed for the benefit of the Insiders, while the true owners — the shareholders — are left holding the bag." Ryan has rougher edges than Buffett, but that just makes him more modern in approach. https://t.co/p0R06M2Ojr — Cassandra Unchained (@michaeljburry) February 18, 2026 Burry shared Cohen's post and wrote: "Ryan has rougher edges than Buffett, but that just makes him more modern in approach." The investor-turned-writer of "The Big Short" fame and GameStop shareholder has been touting the opportunity for Cohen to transform GameStop through acquisitions, drawing parallels to how Buffett reshaped Berkshire Hathaway from a failing textile mill into a $1 trillion conglomerate over six decades. Following Buffett's lead Buffett, who recently stepped down as Berkshire's CEO, has frequently taken aim at crony directors, overpaid executives, and costly consultants. In his shareholder letter for 2019, he bemoaned that many independent directors don't spend a penny of their own money on shares of the companies they're overseeing — and high fees heavily incentivize them to be compliant in the hope of landing additional, lucrative board seats. "When seeking directors, CEOs don't look for pit bulls," Buffett wrote. "It's the cocker spaniel that gets taken home." Buffett joked that he was the "Typhoid Mary of compensation committees," as he'd only ever been appointed to one despite sitting on 18 different boards up to that point. Time and again, Buffett has espoused an owner's mentality, underpinned by having more than 99% of his net worth in Berkshire stock. "We want to make money only when our partners do and in exactly the same proportion," he and the late Charlie Munger wrote in their "Owner's Manual" for Berkshire shareholders. "Moreover, when I do something dumb, I want you to be able to derive some solace from the fact that my financial suffering is proportional to yours," Buffett added. Cohen has diverged from Buffett's playbook in some ways, such as buying bitcoin for GameStop last year, and recently agreeing a compensation package worth tens of billions if he hits certain market-value and profit milestones. But he's also refused a salary as GameStop CEO, built a roughly 9% stake in the video-game retailer, urged frugality across the business, and even modeled its investor-relations website on Berkshire's homepage. Cohen's tirade against the "Risk-Free Insider" is certainly rooted in Buffett's philosophy too, even if he's harsher in his wording as Burry said. Read the original article on Business Insider

Govt will challenge Sea-Watch rulings says Piantedosi

(ANSA) - ROME, FEB 20 - Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi said Friday that the government would challenge two recent rulings against it and in favour of the German Sea-Watch migrant-rescue NGO. This week a court in Catania ordered the release of the NGO's Sea-Watch 5 migrant-rescue ship after the Italian authorities temporarily impounded it for allegedly breaching the rules for such operations, while judges in Palermo ordered the Italian State to pay 76,000 euros in compensation to it for illegally detaining another of its ships, the Sea Watch 3, in 2019. On Wednesday Premier Giorgia Meloni expressed indignation about the latter decision, saying it was an example of how elements within the judiciary are seeking to thwart the government's efforts to halt illegal immigration. "Up until now we have challenged these types of rulings, using the three-level judicial system (in Italy), and we will continue to do so," Piantedosi said at the opening of a new police office at Rome's central Termini train station. "We have challenged them whenever possible, so we will do the same in this case as well". (ANSA). Read article...

Normally, this kind of radio must be handheld and can’t be installed outdoors on fixed equipment. Tesla’s charging pad is fixed and could be outdoors, so they needed an exception. The FCC said yes because: More information from the filing: "The Tesla positioning system is an impulse UWB radio system that enables peer-to-peer communications between a UWB transceiver installed on an electric vehicle (EV) and a second UWB transceiver installed on a ground-level pad — which could be located outdoors — to achieve optimal positioning for the EV to charge wirelessly. Prior to the UWB operation, the vehicular system uses Bluetooth technology for the vehicle to discover the location of the ground pad and engage in data exchange activities (which is not subject to the waiver). When the vehicle approaches the ground pad, the UWB transceivers will operate to track the position of the vehicle to determine when the optimal position has been achieved over the pad before enabling wireless power charging." In its waiver request, Tesla states that the UWB signals occur only briefly when the vehicle approaches the ground pad; and mostly at ground level between the vehicle and the pad, and that the UWB signals are then significantly attenuated by the body of the vehicle positioned over the pad. Satellite images show Russia put up anti-drone nets to protect its fuel tanks. A Ukrainian attack punched through.

A Ukrainian security source said anti-drone netting at the facility failed to stop the attack. Anti-drone netting has emerged as a common makeshift defense tactic on and off the battlefield. Ukrainian drones struck a Russian oil depot overnight, breaking through the netting that had been installed earlier to protect the site from such attacks, a security official told Business Insider on Thursday. Long-range Ukrainian drones struck an oil depot in Velikiye Luki, a city in western Russia's Pskov region, a source in the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) said. They were only authorized to speak on the condition of anonymity to discuss military operations. The source said protective anti-drone nets had been stretched above fuel tanks at the oil depot. The facility belongs to the company Pskovnefteproduct and is located nearly 500 kilometers (310 miles) from the Ukrainian border. The nets were unable to prevent the strike from doing damage, the source added. Satellite imagery captured in December by US spatial intelligence firm Vantor and analyzed by Business Insider, shows what appears to be anti-drone netting covering roughly 15 tanks at the depot in Velikiye Luki. Anti-drone netting is seen in this December 14, 2025, image of storage tanks at Velikiye Luki. Satellite image ©2026 Vantor Anti-drone netting covering tanks at an oil depot in Velikiye Luki, Russia. Satellite image ©2026 Vantor Several explosions and a large fire were reported at the oil facility, the source said, citing local channels on the Telegram messaging app. Video footage shared on social media shows a massive blaze burning through a structure resembling anti-drone netting. This kind of netting has been spotted at other oil facilities in Russia in recent months. The tactic underscores how the country is turning to crude-looking, improvised defenses to protect energy infrastructure from ongoing Ukrainian attacks. "Vietnam, run!" - overnight, drones from the Special Operations Center "Alpha" of the Security Service of Ukraine successfully struck the Velikolukskaya oil depot. A large fire broke out at the site. Anti-drone nets had been stretched over the fuel storage tanks, but they did not… pic.twitter.com/bLBxuHNxtm — WarTranslated (@wartranslated) February 19, 2026 Concerns over the high drone saturation have led to similar measures on the battlefield. Anti-drone netting is common near the front lines. Ukrainian soldiers are using this material to cover critical logistics routes. And both militaries have added cage-like fencing to their armored vehicles to protect against drones. Additionally, Russia has also installed makeshift defenses, such as large, floating barriers, to protect its ports from the Ukrainian naval drones that have wreaked havoc on its Black Sea Fleet. The Ukrainian attack on Wednesday night marked Kyiv's latest deep-strike drone operation against the vast Russian energy sector, a major source of revenue that fuels Moscow's ongoing war efforts. "The SBU continues to work methodically on facilities that provide the Russian army with fuel," the security source said in a translated statement. "The destruction of oil depots directly affects the enemy's ability to conduct combat operations, advance and transfer reserves. Such operations are an element of the systematic weakening of the military potential of the Russian Federation," they added. Anti-drone netting has become increasingly common near the front lines in Ukraine. Dmytro Smolienko/Ukrinform/NurPhoto via Getty Images Neither Russia's defense ministry nor its US embassy responded to a request for comment on the attack. Moscow said its air defenses shot down roughly 300 Ukrainian drones over the past 24 hours. Since last August, Ukraine has been intensifying its long-range drone attacks on Russia's energy sector, targeting oil refineries, terminals, tankers, and platforms at sea. Kyiv has described the deep-strike campaign as its way of imposing "long-range sanctions" on Moscow. Many of these attacks — at least four in the past week, including the most recent strike — have been carried out by the SBU's Alpha group, an elite unit considered to be among the best of Ukraine's special forces. Its personnel have also been involved in ground operations. Meanwhile, Russia has significantly stepped up its missile and drone strikes against Ukraine's energy infrastructure this winter compared to previous years of the war. Since October, Ukrainian energy facilities have been the main target of Russian barrages, Britain's defense ministry said on Thursday. Russia has launched more than 20,000 drones, and its aircraft have fired over 300 missiles, "in attempts to systematically destroy Ukraine's electrical grid and heat generation capacity," the ministry said in an intelligence update. Terrorism spiral

Terrorism spiral

WITH a spate of terrorist attacks occurring in the country, a national-level response is required to address the issue. The latest atrocity has occurred in Bajaur, where a suicide bomber reportedly belonging to the banned TTP attacked a checkpost in Bajaur on Monday. At least 12 people were martyred in the incident — 11 security personnel and one minor girl. Meanwhile, on the same day, a motorcycle rigged with explosives was blown up outside a police station in Bannu, causing two fatalities. Furthermore, law enforcers said on Wednesday that terrorists attacked a police station and a customs office in Dera Ismail Khan, martyring a policeman and a customs officer. They added that the terrorists also fired at passenger buses in the area. Several acts of deadly violence have occurred in this area over the past few weeks. Following the Bajaur attack, the prime minister commented that “under the vision of Azm-i-Istehkam, security forces are gaining major success in the fight against terrorism”. While that may be so, Pakistan continues to pay a high price as it loses security personnel and civilians in frequent terrorist attacks. For example, apart from the latest violence in KP, an imambargah in Islamabad was attacked earlier this month causing major casualties, while only days before the atrocity in the capital terrorists had launched coordinated attacks in Balochistan. Unless the state takes a fresh approach towards terrorism, we may see the same high levels of violence in the current year as we did in 2025. Last year was said to be the bloodiest in over a decade. The threats may be varied — separatist terrorists in Balochistan, religiously inspired elements in KP — but the response must ensure that all violent elements are neutralised, and the state is able to establish peace in the disturbed areas. There has been some welcome recent cooperation between the KP government — which remains the hardest hit province — and the centre in the field of counterterrorism; such efforts must be intensified. A whole-of-nation approach is needed, applying kinetic measures where required, conducting intel-based operations as well as sociopolitical interventions as needed, to defeat terrorism. The federal and provincial governments, lawmakers and the security apparatus, along with CT experts, must put their heads together to arrive at a solution that can bring lasting peace to Pakistan. Tokyo defence involvement in Taiwan would amount to aggression against Beijing: UN envoy

China’s envoy to the United Nations, Fu Cong, has warned that any military involvement by Japan in the Taiwan issue would amount to aggression against Beijing, which would “retaliate resolutely”. Fu told a UN meeting on Wednesday that Tokyo had publicly tied the question of the island’s defence to what it called an existential crisis and that Japan was “attempting to intervene militarily in the Taiwan issue under the guise of collective self-defence”. But those were “fallacies” that betrayed...

Australian police probe threatening letter to country’s largest mosque ahead of Ramazan

Australian police said on Thursday they had launched an investigation after a threatening letter was sent to the country’s largest mosque, the third such incident in the lead-up to Ramazan. The letter sent to Lakemba Mosque in Sydney’s west on Wednesday contained a drawing of a pig and a threat to kill the “Muslim race”, local media reported. Police said they had taken the letter for forensic testing and would continue to patrol religious sites, including the mosque, as well as community events. The latest letter comes weeks after a similar message was mailed to the mosque, depicting Muslims inside a mosque on fire. Police have also arrested and charged a 70-year-old man in connection with a third threatening letter sent to Lakemba Mosque’s staff in January. The Lebanese Muslim Association, which runs the mosque, told the Australian Broadcasting Corp (ABC) it had written to the government to request more funding for additional security guards and CCTV cameras. Some 5,000 people are expected to attend the mosque each night during Ramazan. More than 60 per cent of residents in the suburb of Lakemba identify as Muslim, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics. Bilal El-Hayek, mayor of Canterbury-Bankstown council, where Lakemba is located, said the community was feeling “very anxious”. “I’ve heard first-hand from people saying that they won’t be sending their kids to practice this Ramazan because they’re very concerned about things that might happen in local mosques,” he said. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese condemned the recent string of threats. “It is outrageous that people just going about commemorating their faith, particularly during the holy month for Muslims of Ramazan, are subject to this sort of intimidation,” he told ABC radio. “I have said repeatedly we need to turn down the temperature of political discourse in this country, and we certainly need to do that,” he said. Anti-Muslim sentiment has been growing in Australia since the beginning of Israeli onslaught in Gaza in late 2023, according to a recent report commissioned by the government. The Islamophobia Register Australia has also documented a 740pc rise in reports following the Bondi mass shooting on December 14, where authorities allege two gunmen inspired by the militant Islamic State killed 15 people attending a Jewish holiday celebration. “There’s been a massive increase post-Bondi,” Mayor El-Hayek said. “Without a doubt, this is the worst I have ever seen it. There’s a lot of tension out there.”
