A former Wellington mayoral candidate has been trespassed from the Upper Hutt council offices following an unspecified incident.

Much of the south coast has been listed as unsuitable for swimming, as well the bulk of the inner harbour including Oriental Bay after rain.

Wellington Mayor Andrew Little stated that the council and health authorities must be practical and realistic regarding public access to beaches, implying a need for balanced approaches rather than simply advising people to stay away.
