Inspectors sent in after damaged heart transplanted into 2-yr-old

(ANSA) - ROME, FEB 13 - The health ministry has sent in inspectors to the hospitals involved after a damaged heart was transplanted into a two-year-old boy in Naples in December, ministry sources said on Friday. It is suspected that the heart was damaged because dry ice was used to conserves its condition instead or ordinary ice during its journey from a hospital in Bolzano to Naples' Monaldi Hospital. The mother said the boy, whose name is Tommaso, has been put on life-support until a new donor organ becomes available. Six health professions have been put under investigation over the case.
