Women, kids among 40 trapped inside dilapidated building as new owner razes stairs in Kolkata

Around 40 residents were trapped in a dilapidated Kolkata building after the staircase was allegedly razed by the new owner. Emergency services used ladders to rescue many, including women and children, from the building slated for real-estate development. The mayor assured tenant protection, while residents expressed concerns about displacement.
