Abdul Ahad Momand, the first and only Afghan astronaut, has passed away at the age of 67. He participated in a mission to the Soviet Mir space station in 1988.

Hij ging in 1988 als 29-jarige luchtmachtpiloot mee op een missie naar het ruimtestation Mir, van de Sovjet-Unie.
