Architects Stefano Boeri and Cino Zucchi indicted over Milan's BEIC project

(ANSA) - ROME, FEB 16 - World famous Italian architects Stefano Boeri and Cino Zucchi were sent to trial on Monday along with four other people for alleged bid rigging and false conflict-of-interest declarations over the international tender for the new BEIC European library of information and culture in Milan. Boeri and Zucchi, both lecturers at the Politecnico di Milano, were respectively the president and member of the commission that in 2022 awarded the contact to a consortium including some of their students and professional partners, who are also suspects in the case. Prosecutors said that there was an agreement to assign the contract to this consortium. The defence says there was no wrongdoing, the contract was simply awarded to the best project and conflicts of interest were not reported because the tender said they only should be in the case of ongoing economic collaborations.
