Italy risks Champions League wipeout after Inter lose at Bodo/Glimt

(ANSA) - ROME, FEB 19 - Italy is in danger of having no teams in the last 16 of the Champions League after Inter's 3-1 defeat at Norway's Bodo/Glimt in the first leg of the playoffs on Wednesday followed losses for Juventus and Atalanta on Tuesday. Three-time European champions Inter managed to equalize thanks to Francesco Pio Esposito after Sondre Brunstad Fet opened for the hosts in the first half, but the Norwegians took command of the tie in the second half with goals by Jens Petter Hauge and Kasper Hogh. The result means last season's Champions League runners-up have a mountain to climb to progress, as do Juventus and Atalanta after losing 5-2 and 2-0 away from home to Galatasaray and Borussia Dortmund respectively on Tuesday. Italy's other team in the competition, Serie A champions Napoli, failed to make it through the league stage. There was some good news for Inter on Wednesday, however, as their city rivals AC Milan were held to a 1-1 draw at home in Serie A, meaning they missed the chance to close the gap on them at the top of the table to five points. Inter have 61 points from 25 games, seven more than second-placed Milan. (ANSA). Read article...
