První kvalifikaci nové sezony formule 1 v Austrálii ovládl Mercedes. Verstappen v úvodu havaroval

Kvalifikaci na úvodní Velkou cenu Austrálie mistrovství světa formule 1 ovládli jezdci Mercedesu. Nejrychlejší byl Brit George Russell, který porazil o 293 tisícin sekundy italského kolegu Andreu Antonelliho. Třetí byl Francouz Isack Hadjar z Red Bullu. Jeho parťák a čtyřnásobný mistr světa Max Verstappen v první části havaroval a odstartuje z 20. místa.
