Venice Carnival concludes with 173 nationalities in the lagoon city

(ANSA) - ROME, FEB 17 - With 173 different nationalities present in the lagoon city these days, the 2026 edition of the Venice Carnival, dedicated to the theme "Olympus - The Origins of the Game," concluded Tuesday, officials said. According to data from the Smart Control Room, which hosted the inter-force coordination meeting organized by the Prefecture, the majority of foreign visitors were Spanish with 14.1%, followed by French at 13.7%, British at 9.7%, Germans at 7.5%, Americans at 6.3%, and Australians at 4.7%. From January 31st to today, Venice has transformed into a multi-faceted stage, welcoming visitors from all over the world who have participated in parades, theatrical performances, concerts, artistic performances, and water parades. An edition that successfully intertwined the mythological roots of the game with the current relevance of the Winter Olympics and Paralympics, and which concluded today with the final salute in Piazza San Marco by the victorious Maria, Martine Diop Bullo, the parade of floats in Zelarino, and the final performance of "The Call of Olympia" at the Arsenale, which enchanted the audience with its ancestral tale of light and fire. The event culminated with masked parties in historic palaces.
