Indian Supreme Court Extends Anti-Cruelty Law to Live-in Relationships

The Indian Supreme Court has expanded the scope of Section 498A of the Indian Penal Code, which addresses cruelty to married women, to also cover cruelty in live-in relationships. The court acknowledged live-in relationships as a societal reality, making partners in such relationships eligible for protection under the anti-cruelty law.
