Financial Burden for Japanese Private University Freshmen Reaches Record High
For private university freshmen in the Tokyo metropolitan area who commute from outside their homes, the average household financial burden from examination to enrollment reached a record high of 2.35 million yen last year. Meanwhile, their daily living expenses were only 660 yen, prompting a faculty and staff union to state that "the burden of education costs has reached its limit due to rising prices."
