Amniocentesis Procedures Decline Following Introduction of NIPT Prenatal Screening
A study by the National Center for Child Health and Development in Japan found that the number of amniocentesis procedures, a more invasive prenatal test, has decreased to one-third of its peak. Researchers attribute this decline to the introduction of less burdensome prenatal screening methods like NIPT, allowing amniocentesis to be reserved for higher-risk cases.
