Viens otrs no Latvijas ļaudīm siltajā sezonā nepeldas, neplunčojas, nebrien neapautām kājām dīķos, ezeros, upēs, jo baidās no ūdenī mītošiem mošķiem, pirmkārt, no asinskārajām briesmonēm dēlēm. Tomēr asinis sūc nebūt ne visas Latvijā sastopamās dēles.
