
Ambassador Ferranti meets with the Armenian Minister of the Environment
(ANSA) - ROMA, 18 FEB - The Italian Ambassador to Yerevan, Alessandro Ferranti, was received by the Minister of Environment of the Republic of Armenia, Hambardzum Matevosyan. During the meeting, the agenda of bilateral relations was reviewed, emphasizing the importance of deepening cooperation in the areas of environmental protection and sustainable development. Particular reference was made to the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of sustainable development, signed in 2021, which creates a basis for the implementation of joint initiatives aimed at increasing climate resilience, assess risks and improve disaster management systems, preserve biodiversity, promote sustainable forest and water resource management, ensure efficient waste management, and develop the circular economy. The participation of the delegation of the Republic of Armenia, led by Minister Matevosyan, in the resumed session of the 16th Conference of the Parties (COP16) to the Convention on Biological Diversity, held in Rome in 2025, was also discussed. during which important agreements were reached on biodiversity financing mechanisms and on the comprehensive set of indicators to measure progress in implementing the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. During the meeting, the parties also discussed the preparatory work for COP17, scheduled to take place in Yerevan from October 18 to 30, 2026.
