LGBT Asylum Seekers Face Low Approval Rates in Montenegro Despite Threats
Between early 2022 and late 2025, 27 asylum applications were filed in Montenegro citing sexual orientation or gender identity as the primary basis, but only two were approved. Despite legal recognition of identity-based protection, judicial practice often demands extensive proof, even in cases involving threats of capital punishment.
