First Batch of Ghanaians Evacuated from South Africa Following Anti-Immigrant Protests

The first group of 300 Ghanaian migrants has been repatriated from South Africa following anti-immigrant protests in the country, with a total of 800 expected to leave. The initial batch of evacuated Ghanaians arrived at Kotoka International Airport in Accra on Wednesday, May 27. South African officials claim that only a small fraction of the repatriated Ghanaians were legally in the country, as authorities condemn the violence and pledge to tackle xenophobic attacks.
