V období mccarthismu skončily ze dne na den kariéry stovek amerických umělců. Pete Seeger sice byl nějaký čas komunistou, život si ale zničit nenechal. Vzal banjo a hrál i na dětských táborech. Skončilo to mnoha cenami a nominací na Nobelovu cenu.
