Lake Vostok: A Subglacial Lake in Antarctica Isolated for Millions of Years

Lake Vostok, a vast subglacial lake beneath nearly four kilometers of ice in East Antarctica, has been cut off from sunlight for fifteen million years. The lake is approximately 250 kilometers long and 50 kilometers wide.
