Why TikTok’s latest ‘FAFO’ parenting craze is problematic and rooted in a harsh mindset

Conversations that have presented regularly to my therapy room over the past few months are with parents who feel they are struggling to find the balance between ‘gentle parenting’ where they try everything to not upset their child who is already struggling with emotional overwhelm and what they refer to as ‘tough love’ where they put strong boundaries and consequences in place for behaviour that is inappropriate and in some cases risky.
