Laureti (PD) appointed EP rapporteur on organic farming

(ANSA) - ROME, FEB 20 - Camilla Laureti, MEP from the Democratic Party and Vice-President of the S&D Group, has been appointed as the European Parliament's rapporteur for the amendments to the regulation on organic farming. "Organic farming can and must be one of the pillars on which to build the future of European agri-food: a sector that can combine environmental and social sustainability, food quality, producers' income and new opportunities for young people," she said in a statement, stressing that organic farming in Europe today "covers over 17 million hectares of cultivated land, equal to 11% of the utilised agricultural area" and that "the EU's target is ambitious but necessary: to reach 25% by 2030. A goal that must be supported with coherent policies, adequate investment and clear rules." "As rapporteur in the European Parliament, I will work to ensure that the amendments to the organic regulation strengthen this sector, providing certainty to farmers, valuing the work of young people and creating the conditions for them to increasingly choose agriculture as a profession," she concluded. #IMCAP Co-funded by the European Union.
