Nordio says will comply with Mattarella's call to respect CSM

(ANSA) - ROME, FEB 18 - Justice Minister Carlo Nordio said Wednesday he would comply with President Sergio Mattarella's call to respect the judiciary's self-governing body, the CSM, which the minister earlier this week called a "para-mafioso" body. Nordio, whose criticism of the CSM came amid a heated campaign for next month's referendum on judiciary reform, however said other people's words had been put into his mouth. "I will comply, obviously. I will try to be as consistent as possible, as I think I have been in the past," said Nordio after Mattarella's highly unusual step to chair an ordinary meeting of the CSM, of which he is titular head. "Certain expressions I used," he added, "were not mine. I quoted others' words, but let's consider this polemical phase over. "We are entering a phase of constructive dialogue, one that focuses on content. There are reasons to be critical of the reform, and I have always maintained there are better reasons to support it.
