Friendship Agreement signed in Ireland between Pompeii and Dublin

(ANSA) - LONDRA, 13 FEB - A friendship agreement was signed between Pompeii and Dublin at the Mansion House in the Irish capital. It was signed by the acting mayor of the Campania municipality, Andreina Esposito, and Lord Mayor Ray McAdam, as announced in a statement by the Italian Embassy in Ireland. The agreement aims to establish stable and lasting cooperation to encourage cultural and educational exchanges between educational institutions, promote the sharing of best practices in the tourism sector, and encourage joint initiatives for the enhancement of their respective cultural heritages. The signing of the agreement was accompanied by an event to promote Pompeii and other tourist and cultural destinations in Campania to the Irish public. The event was hosted by the Italian Cultural Institute (ICI) and organized in collaboration with the Embassy, the Italian-Irish Chamber of Commerce, the ICE Agency, and ENIT, in collaboration with the Municipality of Pompeii and the Campania Region. On this occasion, Ambassador Nicola Faganello highlighted the importance of strengthening cultural and tourist relations between Dublin and Pompeii, and between Ireland and Italy in general, also in light of the recent positive trends in Irish tourist flows to the peninsula, marked by a +7.3% increase in arrivals in the first half of 2025 compared to the previous year. The evening ended with a concert by soprano Concetta Pepere, professor of chamber music at the 'G. Martucci' Conservatory in Salerno, and Irish pianist Maja Elliott, followed by a reception featuring traditional Campania food and wine specialties attended by Italian guests, local authorities, economic and tourism operators, and journalists from the sector.
