Latvian President Proposes Law to Mandate 5% GDP Investment in Defense

Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs has submitted a bill to parliament to enshrine in law a commitment to invest at least 5% of GDP in national defense annually, starting from 2027.

Valsts prezidents Edgars Rinkēvičs nosūtījis Saeimas Prezidijam likumprojektu "Grozījums Valsts aizsardzības finansēšanas likumā", rosinot likumā nostiprināt apņemšanos sākot ar 2027. gadu valsts aizsardzībā ieguldīt ne mazāk kā 5 % no attiecīgajam gadam prognozētā iekšzemes kopprodukta (IKP) apjoma.
