Opaska Džordž Santajana da „narodi koji ne pamte prošlost, osuđeni su da je ponove” zlokobno se šunja iza današnjice Starog kontinenta. Kratkovidost i gramzivost tajkuna i industrijalaca u sprezi sa nacionalizmom i populizmom dva puta su odveli Evropu u rat u prošlom vijeku.
