Minamata Disease: Mercury Poisoning and "Dancing Cat Fever" in 1950s Japan
In the 1950s, residents around Japan's Minamata Bay observed cats exhibiting uncontrolled movements and convulsions, leading to the term "dancing cat fever." This phenomenon was a precursor to the widespread mercury poisoning that became known as Minamata disease.
