A spokesperson for Mountbatten-Windsor did not immediately respond to a request for comment. "Following a thorough assessment, we have now opened an investigation into this allegation of misconduct in public office," said Oliver Wright, assistant chief constable with the Thames Valley Police. "It is important that we protect the integrity and objectivity of our investigation as we work with our partners to investigate this alleged offence," he added. Before the arrest, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer told the BBC, "Nobody is above the law." "[The police] will conduct their own investigations, but one of the core principles in our system is that everybody is equal under the law and nobody is above the law," he said. The BBC reported on Thursday that King Charles’ brother Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office. Earlier, the Daily Telegraph said that British police had arrived at the Andrew’s residence in eastern England. It said six unmarked police cars and around eight plain clothed officers were seen arriving at Wood Farm on the Sandringham estate earlier on Thursday. Thames Valley Police said earlier in February they were looking at allegations that Mountbatten-Windsor had passed confidential government documents to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, according to recently released files. Mountbatten-Windsor has denied any wrongdoing and said he regrets his friendship with Epstein, but he has not responded to specific requests for comment after the latest files were published by the US government.
