Srbija se prema parametrima relevantnih međunarodnih organizacija poput OECD, UN, WHO, Svetske banke i drugih nalazi u donjem delu evropske skale gotovo svih ključnih socioekonomskih pokazatelja. U pitanju nisu izolovani indikatori, već konzistentan obrazac zaostajanja u oblasti zdravlja, obrazovanja, ekonomskog razvoja i institucionalne stabilnosti, koji zemlju pozicionira u donjoj trećini Evrope po većini komparativnih rangova.
