Paraguay, thanks to Italian legal diplomacy, fights crime more effectively

(ANSA) - SAN PAOLO, 17 FEB - Thanks to the contribution of Italian legal diplomacy, Paraguay is equipping itself with new intelligence tools to combat organized crime. The country's highest authorities, the Ministries of the Interior and Justice, the National Police, and the National Intelligence Secretariat signed the approval of the Regulations of the Action Plan of the Interinstitutional Technical Committee (CTI) on Prison Intelligence, developed with the support of the European Union. According to a statement from the Italian Embassy, this document marks a milestone in the country's security policy and strengthens inter-institutional cooperation against organized crime. The CTI was created as a strategic body with a mixed composition, with the mission of developing a modern and effective prison intelligence system capable of coordinating efforts between institutions, sharing critical information, and designing joint operational plans. This document, developed with the support of the European Union's Regional Program El paccto 2.0, reflects Paraguay's desire to strengthen international and regional cooperation on security, consolidating the country as a key player in the fight against organized crime. The objective is clear: to shield the prison system from infiltration by organized crime and transform it into a safe, transparent space under state control. The document, the note concludes, was signed by Rubén Maciel Guerreño, Deputy Minister of Justice; Oscar Rafael Pereira, Deputy Minister of Internal Security of the Ministry of the Interior; Carlos Benítez González, Commander of the National Police; and Marcos Alcaraz Recalde, of the National Intelligence Secretariat. Also present were Dr. Roberto Tartaglia, expert on the European Union's El paccto 2.0 program, together with Sergio Velilla, Director of International Affairs at the Ministry of Justice, and Isaac Ferreira, Deputy Minister and Assistant Secretary. At the signing, Deputy Minister Rubén Maciel emphasized that today marks the consolidation of a process that has already begun in a climate of trust and joint effort. Read article...
