Mimo GTI jubileja, ove godine postoji još jedan razlog za slavlje u Wolfsburgu. Prije 50 godina rođen je prvi Golf dizel. Najjeftiniji Golf dizel u Zapadnoj Njemačkoj koštao je 10.950 DM, oko 1.500 DM više od benzinske verzije, a trošio je dva litra manje od njega.
