France and Vanuatu to Hold New Talks on Matthew and Hunter Islands Sovereignty
New discussions are scheduled to take place in Paris 'by this summer' between France and Vanuatu regarding the sovereignty of the uninhabited Matthew and Hunter islands. These small, isolated islands in the South Pacific provide France with an exclusive economic zone of 350,000 square kilometers, while Vanuatu has claimed them since its independence in 1980.
