St. Peter's Basilica's to get ;;new apps, services, font for 400th anniversary

(ANSA) - ROME, FEB 16 - St. Peter's Basilica's is to get ;;new booking apps, expanded terrace bar services, and a fresh font based on Michelangelo's handwriting for its 400th anniversary on November 18 this year, the Vatican said Monday. There will be apps for celebrations and for booking access, new services for pilgrims, including an expansion of the refreshment area on the terrace, and the opportunity to see previously inaccessible corners, according to the program for the 400th anniversary of the dedication of St. Peter's Basilica, outlined during a press conference. Among the highlights is the arrival of a new font, Michelangelus, created by studying the handwriting of Michelangelo Buonarroti, as announced by Cardinal Mauro Gambetti, Archpriest of the Basilica. In addition to the spiritual and cultural activities, as well as the new services that will be made available to pilgrims and visitors, the "Beyond the Visible" project, jointly promoted with Eni, for the study and integrated monitoring of the basilica, was presented. "The project is particularly significant, considering that cutting-edge technologies will allow everyone who enters the basilica, from all over the world, to learn about and interact with it and its digital ecosystem," explained Msgr Gambetti during the meeting with journalists. Asked about recent incidents of visitors making obscene gestures in the world's biggest church, Gambetti said security would be tightened to stop "copy cat" episodes. (ANSA). Read article...
